THE WEST COAST CANADIAN DRONE NATIONAL QUALIFIER

The Qualifiers will bring the best drone racers from the west coast and based on the points they accumulate over the 2017 season, the top 32 pilots will compete head to head at the Canadian Drone National Finals in our nation’s capital, Ottawa on October 13th and 14th as part of the Canada 150.

 

IDRA CHALLENGERS CUP WESTERN CANADIAN COMPETITIONS

The Canadian Federation for Drone Racing (CFDR) and the International Drone Racing Association (IDRA) have partnered together to present two international competitions into Canada, one East Coast and one West Coast.

Pilots will race to gain points for the IDRA Challengers Cup competitions where they can have the opportunity to compete against the top pilots in the world. Hosted by FPV Vancouver & the West Coast Drone Racing League at the Vancouver Drone Expo & Technology show on August 19th.

The Canadian Drone Academy welcomes you to learn more about building and flying drones.
 
After having a very successful 1st semester in the winter of 2016 with 20 students attending and graduating from the 10 week course at the District 3 Makerspace at Concordia University.  We have had many people sign up on the website and we have decided to offer 2 classes a week to allow more students in the program.
 
About the course
 
The Course will be taught by Nick Iversen who is not only a passionate and experienced drone pilot. Nick is also the Marketing Director at FPV Canada has also been a pioneer by helping form the FPV community in Montreal which includes the Canadian Drone Academy and the much acclaimed Montreal Drone Expo.. CDA will be working WIth 3 major Canadian drone companies to provide the choice of drones. ( Airblade UAV, FPV Racing Products, FPV Quads Canada ) We will cover transport Canada’s laws and also guidelines from MAAC for flying safety so that all our students knows how to fly safely.

When are the courses?
Classes will start the October 29th  2016 and will last for 7 weeks till the 3rd week of December. Classes will be weekends on Saturdays from 11am to 2pm.
 
What is the course curriculum?
 Learn to build and fly drones in 10 weeks
 
Week 1: Introduction to drones
Week 2: Start building - Start flying simulators
Week 3: Connecting power and motors
Week 4: Flight Controller & Cleanflight
Week 5: Understanding Testing and tuning
Week 7: Setting up everything FPV ( First Person View )
Week 8: Finish builds and go over safety and regulations/
 
After finishing the course you have access to taking our flying classes. Flying classes will start the second week of January and you will have 2 free classes. Then you can continue on your own or take our separate drone flying class.
 
 
Where are the courses held?
 
The classes will be held either at Concordia’s District 3 Makerspace. 5min walk from a metro and also has lots of parking around.
 
How much is the course and what what do you get?
 
Price of the course is starting at 1000$ with the choice of 3 drones to upgrade to.
 
Includes:

  1. All the parts to build a FPV Drone
  2. The remote control
  3. The FPV Goggles
  4. 1 battery
  5. 1 set of props
  6. Battery tester and buzzer
  7. 1 basic charger
  8. Tool kit with everything you need to build a drone
  9. Soldering Iron with stand
  10. Nuts, bolts, standoffs, tie wraps and shrink wrap.

 
Class requirements?
 
This course is open to anyone above the age of 14 and does not require any previous knowledge.  This does require lots of time and the ability to figure things out online and trouble shoot at any point.  Anyone should be able learn how to build a drone with our 10 week program and be able to have the knowledge and tools necessary to be confident in going forward in this hobby.

Canada's biggest drone racing event with the Canadian qualifier for the IDRA North American cup and the drone national world drone racing championships. montreal FPV MTL Is proud to present the first Montreal Drone Expo on Saturday June 25th, 2016 at the prestigious Percival Molson memorial stadium located at 475 Avenue des Pins, Montreal, Quebec H2W 1S4. This will be Canada's biggest drone racing event to date with the Canadian qualifier for the IDRA North American cup and the drone nationals drone racing championships also the students of the first session of the Canadian drone academy will be racing for the first time as part of their graduation. More than 60 pilots from all over canada will be converging to attend these two very high profile races in have the chance that they will qualify to the drone nationals world drone racing championships and the IDRA North American Cup. The Canadian drone academy will be finishing their 1st semester of their courses where students get to learn to build, fly and race over a 10 weeks ending with the montreal drone racing expo race where the students will compete for great prizes from our sponsors and also receive their racing diplomas. The Montreal drone expo is an event for all ages to share the passion of flying drones and educate people about this great new exciting sport and hobby with lots of great interactive activities. We want to open this event to families so we created a kids zone for kids 8 and up and have teamed up with Teeny Drone to create a fun area kids to learn the basics of how drones work, safety and flying drones. Teeny drones will be providing easy to fly safe and fun little drones for kids to get introduced to this fun hobby. We will also have booths set up with drone flying simulators for all ages to let you virtually try and be a pilot, strap on FPV goggles and a remote and see what's it's like. During races we have made sure that spectators will have the best experience by first having multiple tv screens broadcasting each of the pilots views of the race and we will be also streaming the event live to services such as twitch, periscope and Facebook live allowing you to use your smartphone or computer to watch anywhere. We will have many exhibitors from all from all areas of the drone industry from hobby shops, camera stores, drone services, schools and racing communities. We have a many great sponsors that have provided things to give away, we will be holding multiple raffles all day long for you to win drone related prizes. The Montreal drone expo is free for a limited amount of tickets and will cost only 5 to 10$ at most as tickets amounts increase.
